Article 54: Authorised representatives of providers of general-purpose AI models

provider · limited risk · Article 54

Providers of general-purpose AI models established in third countries must, by written mandate and prior to placing the model on the Union market, appoint an authorised representative established in the Union, enable that representative to perform the mandated tasks, and the representative must provide a copy of the mandate to the AI Office on request.

How to satisfy it: Applies to non-EU GPAI providers only, and it bites before market placement rather than after. The mandate is the artifact; without it the model cannot lawfully be placed on the Union market.
